Julio Urias won’t face felony charges for allegedly assaulting wife [Update]

Free agent MLB pitcher Julio Urias will reportedly not face a felony charge for allegedly assaulting his wife at an MLS game in September. According to TMZ Sports, the Los Angeles district attorney has rejected the case, stating that the incident “didn’t warrant such a serious charge.”

The decision comes after Urias was arrested for domestic violence in 2019 but was never charged. The lack of a criminal record and other factors have led the D.A. to believe that the case does not rise to a felony level. The case has now been sent to the City Attorney, who could choose to file a misdemeanor charge.

The incident in question occurred following an Inter Miami-LAFC soccer game, where Urias allegedly got physical with a woman. Stadium workers intervened, and Urias and the woman then allegedly went into a nearby vehicle where the altercation continued. TMZ reports that at least part of the incident was caught on video.

Following the incident, Urias was placed on administrative leave by MLB and was subsequently removed from Dodger Stadium and given away his locker by the Dodgers. The pitcher, who had spent eight years with the team, was in the final weeks of a one-year contract.

This is not Urias’ first arrest for domestic violence. In 2019, he was placed on administrative leave and later suspended for 20 games for a similar incident. Despite the allegations, Urias has maintained his innocence throughout the process.

The California Highway Patrol has concluded its investigation into the matter, and now it is up to the District Attorney’s office to decide whether to file criminal charges against Urias. There is currently no timetable for this decision.

It remains to be seen how this situation will affect Urias’ future in MLB. While he is currently a free agent, his history with domestic violence incidents may impact his ability to secure a new contract. Teams will likely consider the allegations and the ongoing legal proceedings before making any decisions regarding Urias.

As the case continues to unfold, it is important to remember that domestic violence is a serious issue that should never be taken lightly. It is crucial for authorities to thoroughly investigate and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
