Brent Rooker leads way as Athletics beat Angels again

The Oakland Athletics continued their offensive dominance on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-2 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The A’s have been on a hot streak, scoring a total of 31 runs in their previous two games, and they didn’t let up in this one.

Brent Rooker was the star of the game for the A’s, belting a three-run homer and driving in a total of three runs. Lawrence Butler also had a big day at the plate, clearing the bases with a three-RBI double. The A’s wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning off of Miguel Andujar’s single, JJ Bleday’s double, and Rooker’s homer.

Pitcher Mitch Spence had a solid outing for the A’s, allowing just two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He was supported by a strong bullpen performance from Scott Alexander, Austin Adams, and Tyler Ferguson, who combined for 3 2/3 innings of one-hit, shutout ball.

The Angels tried to mount a comeback in the sixth inning, but the A’s bullpen shut them down and secured the win. Anthony Rendon’s sacrifice fly in the third inning and Jo Adell’s 2-for-3 performance were bright spots for the Angels in the loss.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the A’s, who extended their winning streak to three games and their home winning streak against the Angels to five games this season. With their offense firing on all cylinders and their pitching staff performing well, the A’s look like a team to watch as they continue their push for the playoffs.
