Zach Wilson learns hard lesson about life with Aaron Rodgers

Wait, did Zach Wilson think he and Aaron Rodgers were making a buddy movie together? Well, according to recent reports, it seems that the relationship between the New York Jets’ rookie quarterback and the Green Bay Packers’ veteran quarterback soured as the 2023 season progressed.

Apparently, Wilson had the expectation that he would be able to stay in direct contact with Rodgers after Rodgers’ Achilles injury in Week 1. However, that didn’t happen, and Wilson, along with others, grew tired of how head coach Robert Saleh “fawned over” A-Rod.

The reports, from Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini of The Athletic, shed light on the situation. It seems that Wilson wasn’t familiar with who Rodgers is and what he stands for. Rodgers has always been known for being about himself, and it’s been publicly documented. While there are former players who like Rodgers, there are also plenty who were glad to be done playing with him. Wilson might be the only one who’s surprised by this.

Rodgers, who was worried about trying to defy the world by returning to the field from an Achilles tear and surgery after three weeks, wasn’t exactly focused on checking in and coddling Wilson. It’s unclear why Wilson even thought they’d have that buddy-buddy, mentor/mentee relationship. It seems like he was really reaching with that wish.

Mr. Rodgers doesn’t give a damn about Wilson or anyone else, for that matter. This behavior from Rodgers is nothing new. Wilson’s feelings might be a little bit hurt, but he shouldn’t worry about it. Rodgers is who he is, and hopefully, Wilson takes this as a lesson and treats it as a business the same way Rodgers does.

As for Saleh, the head coach who was fanboying over Rodgers, he probably won’t be with the Jets for much longer anyway. If Rodgers comes back next season and the Jets still can’t make the playoffs, Saleh will likely be finished. Wilson might also be moved to another team. Maybe Rodgers will retreat to a cave somewhere in the wilderness, and who knows, maybe he’ll bring Wilson along to introduce him to the wonderful world of psychedelics, as it seems Wilson already has some experience with hallucination.

In conclusion, the Wilson-Rodgers relationship reportedly soured during the 2023 season, with Wilson expecting more from Rodgers and Rodgers simply being himself. It’s a lesson for Wilson to understand the business side of the NFL and not to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to his fellow players. As for Rodgers and Saleh, their futures with their respective teams remain uncertain.
