Yankees place J.D. Davis (stomach flu) on injured list

The New York Yankees have placed infielder J.D. Davis on the 10-day injured list due to a stomach flu. The move is retroactive to Tuesday for Davis, who was acquired from the Oakland Athletics on June 23 in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans.

Davis, 31, has played in five games with the Yankees, including three starts at first base and one as the designated hitter. He has struggled at the plate, going 1-for-13 with a double, an RBI, and six strikeouts.

Prior to joining the Yankees, Davis was batting .236 with four home runs and five RBIs in 39 games with the Athletics this season. A journeyman infielder, Davis has a career .258 batting average with 72 home runs and 221 RBIs in 638 games with the Houston Astros, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Athletics, and now the Yankees.

To replace Davis on the active roster, the Yankees have recalled infielder Jorbit Vivas from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Vivas, 23, has yet to make his major league debut but has been performing well in the minors this season. He is batting .252 with five homers, 24 RBIs, and nine steals in 45 games across three levels in the minors.

The Yankees will rely on Vivas to provide depth in the infield while Davis recovers from his illness. It remains to be seen how long Davis will be sidelined, but the team is hopeful that he will make a quick recovery and be back on the field soon.
