Utah State football player Andre Seldon Jr. tragically passed away on Saturday in an apparent drowning incident at a Utah reservoir. The 22-year-old cornerback was a rising star on the team and his sudden death has left the entire Utah State University community in mourning.
According to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, the search for Seldon began on Saturday afternoon at Porcupine Reservoir after he was seen diving from cliffs and failed to resurface. After an extensive search effort, Seldon’s body was discovered by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team at 9:05 p.m. MT.
Seldon had recently transferred to Utah State earlier this year after a successful stint at New Mexico State, where he recorded 96 tackles and two interceptions over two seasons. He played under Nate Dreiling, who is now serving as Utah State’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator.
In a statement released by the school, Dreiling expressed his deep sadness over Seldon’s passing, describing him as an “incredible person and teammate.” He extended his condolences to Seldon’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Prior to his time at New Mexico State, Seldon spent two seasons at the University of Michigan, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport of football. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of his teammates, coaches, and fans, who remember him for his passion for the game and his positive impact on those around him.
The Utah State University community has come together to honor Seldon’s memory and offer support to his loved ones during this challenging period. The loss of Andre Seldon Jr. has deeply affected the football program and the entire university, reminding us all of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment we have with those we hold dear.
As we mourn the passing of a talented athlete and a beloved member of the Utah State family, we keep Andre Seldon Jr. in our thoughts and prayers, remembering the lasting impact he made on all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Andre.
