Tourism Australia Partners with BYTAP and ATEC to Launch New Youth Leadership Program

Tourism Australia has announced a new partnership with Backpacker Youth Tourism Advisory Panel (BYTAP) and the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) to launch a new youth leadership program aimed at engaging and empowering young people in the tourism industry.

The program, known as the Youth Leadership Program, will provide opportunities for young Australians to gain valuable skills and experience in the tourism sector, while also helping to shape the future of the industry. Participants will have the chance to work on real-world projects, attend networking events, and receive mentorship from industry experts.

According to Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, the program is an important step in building a more diverse and inclusive tourism industry. “Young people are the future of our industry, and it’s crucial that we provide them with the support and resources they need to succeed,” she said. “By partnering with BYTAP and ATEC, we hope to inspire the next generation of leaders in tourism and help them reach their full potential.”

The program will be open to young people aged 18-30 who are currently studying or working in the tourism industry. Participants will be selected through a competitive application process, and will be required to commit to a 12-month program that includes workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities.

BYTAP Co-Chair, Sarah Matheson, believes that the program will play a crucial role in developing the skills and talents of young people in the industry. “This program will provide a platform for young people to learn, grow, and contribute to the future of tourism in Australia,” she said. “We’re excited to partner with Tourism Australia and ATEC to make this initiative a reality.”

ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley, added that the program will help to address the current skills shortage in the tourism industry. “By investing in the next generation of leaders, we are ensuring that the industry remains vibrant and competitive for years to come,” he said. “We look forward to working with Tourism Australia and BYTAP to deliver this exciting new program.”

The Youth Leadership Program is set to launch later this year, with applications opening in the coming months. For more information about the program and how to apply, visit the Tourism Australia website.
