Tigers make three moves to fill roster vacancies

The Detroit Tigers made a series of roster moves recently, shaking up their lineup in the midst of a challenging season. The team activated infielder Javier Baez from the medical emergency/bereavement list, while also recalling right-hander Brenan Hanifee and left-hander Sean Guenther from Triple-A Toledo.

Baez, a seasoned veteran with 11 major league seasons under his belt, has struggled at the plate this year, batting just .178 with a career-low .484 OPS in 67 games. However, the Tigers are hopeful that the return of the talented infielder will provide a much-needed spark to their lineup.

Hanifee, a 26-year-old right-hander, has only three career major league appearances, all coming last season in relief for the Tigers. He has posted a 5.17 ERA in 47 innings over 34 relief appearances this season in Toledo, and the Tigers will be looking for him to bolster their bullpen.

Guenther, a 28-year-old left-hander, has not seen major league action since 2021 when he struggled in 14 relief outings for the Miami Marlins. However, he has shown promise in Toledo this season, posting a 3.86 ERA in 44 1/3 innings over 34 games.

These roster moves come on the heels of several trades that saw key players like Jack Flaherty, Andrew Chafin, and Mark Canha depart for other teams. The Tigers are in the midst of a rebuilding phase, and these changes reflect their commitment to building a competitive team for the future.

Only time will tell how these roster moves will impact the Tigers’ performance on the field. As the season progresses, fans will be watching closely to see if Baez, Hanifee, and Guenther can help lead the team to success.
