At 4:02 PM PT, Tiger Woods’ manager informed reporters at The Genesis Invitational that the golfing legend had been suffering from flu-like symptoms since Thursday night. Despite feeling unwell, Woods attempted to push through and compete on Friday. However, he started feeling dizzy on the course and ultimately made the decision to withdraw from the event.
Rob McNamara, Tiger Woods’ manager, revealed that Woods began experiencing flu-like symptoms the previous night and started feeling dizzy while playing. Following an IV treatment, Woods is now feeling “much, much better.” McNamara emphasized that the issue was “not physical at all,” hinting at a non-physical cause for Woods’ symptoms.
Tiger Woods, who shot a 1-over 73 in his first round on Thursday, made it through six holes on Friday before deciding to withdraw. He hit his tee shot on the 7th hole and then left the course in a golf cart, heading back to the clubhouse. Concerns for Woods’ health grew when an ambulance arrived at the venue shortly after his withdrawal.
It appears that a bug may be going around the course, as fellow PGA Tour star Jordan Spieth is reportedly also dealing with illness. Woods’ return to the PGA Tour at The Genesis Invitational was highly anticipated, as it marked his first competitive rounds since undergoing ankle surgery following the 2023 Masters.
Despite his withdrawal, Woods seemed in good spirits following his first round and expressed excitement about playing alongside friends Gary Woodland and Justin Thomas. Fans and fellow players will be keeping a close eye on Woods’ health and wishing him a speedy recovery.
