Lawmakers in Virginia have officially filed legislation to legalize marijuana sales, a month after a senator expressed confidence that a bill could pass this year. However, Governor Glenn Youngkin has stated that he has no interest in moving forward with marijuana legalization. If he vetoes the bill, Virginia will continue to suffer from the growth of the illicit market and lose out on potential tax revenue. In New Jersey, lawmakers have filed over a dozen cannabis policy bills, including proposals for interstate commerce, home cultivation, and banking. The state is projected to generate over $1 billion in cannabis sales in 2024. Meanwhile, Arizona’s cannabis market has found a balance after three years, with adult-use sales consistently outperforming medical sales. In October, adult-use sales reached approximately $85 million, while medical sales dipped to around $25 million.
