Tesla Raises Prices on Model Y SUV in Germany
Tesla Inc (TSLA) has recently increased prices on its Model Y SUV in Germany by as much as 2,500 euros ($2,692) after previously dropping them in January. The price hike affects both the base rear-wheel drive version and the higher-end two versions of the electric SUV.
According to Tesla’s Germany website, the rear-wheel-drive variant of the Model Y is now listed at 44,990 euros ($48,438), while the Long Range version is priced at 52,490 euros ($56,512) and the Performance version at 58,490 euros ($62,972).
This new price increase comes after Tesla had initially cut prices for the Model Y in January. At that time, the rear-wheel-drive model saw a price reduction of 1,900 euros, while the Long Range and Performance versions witnessed a cut of 5,000 euros.
Tesla has been making adjustments to the prices of the Model Y in several countries, including China, Germany, Canada, and the United States since the beginning of the year. However, Germany is the first country to experience both a price cut and a subsequent price increase.
The Model Y has proven to be a popular choice among consumers, becoming the best-selling vehicle worldwide last year with over 1.2 million units delivered. This landmark achievement makes it the first electric vehicle (EV) to secure that title.
Tesla’s decision to increase prices in Germany may be influenced by various factors, including changes in production costs, import taxes, and currency exchange rates. Additionally, the company may be seeking to optimize profitability amidst growing demand for its vehicles.
