Surging Angels continue dominance of Mariners with sweep

The Los Angeles Angels completed a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to Brandon Drury’s clutch hit in the eighth inning. The game was a tight battle between the two teams, but the Angels ultimately came out on top.

The Mariners, who have been struggling recently, lost for the eighth time in their past nine games and fell out of a first-place tie with Houston in the American League West. On the other hand, the Angels are on a hot streak, winning their fourth consecutive game and their seventh in the last nine outings.

The pivotal moment in the game came in the eighth inning when Nolan Schanuel led off with a single and eventually scored the tying run on Willie Calhoun’s single. Drury then delivered the go-ahead run with a two-out single, driving in pinch runner Kevin Piller. However, Drury was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double.

Both starting pitchers, Griffin Canning for the Angels and Luis Castillo for the Mariners, put in solid performances but did not factor into the decision. Canning allowed just one run on four hits over five innings, while Castillo pitched six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven.

The Mariners had a chance to take the lead in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs. However, they failed to capitalize on the opportunity as Canning worked his way out of the jam, striking out Luke Raley to end the threat.

In the end, it was the Angels who emerged victorious, with reliever Hans Crouse picking up the win and Carlos Estevez recording his 20th save of the season. The sweep of the Mariners was a statement win for the Angels, who are looking to make a push for a playoff spot in the competitive AL West.

Overall, it was a hard-fought victory for the Angels, who showed resilience and determination in coming from behind to secure the win. The team will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push towards the postseason.
