Stellantis Ventures Invests in Breakthrough LiDAR Technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Stellantis N.V. corporate venture fund, Stellantis Ventures, has made an investment in SteerLight, a developer of a new generation of high-performance LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensing technology. This investment is part of Stellantis’ ongoing efforts to enhance automated driving capabilities in its vehicles.
SteerLight’s LiDAR technology is designed to sense the surrounding environment in three dimensions with higher resolution and precision, all while being produced at a lower cost compared to existing LiDAR systems. This technology is expected to improve the performance of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in future Stellantis vehicles.
Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering & Technology Officer, expressed the company’s commitment to advancing automated driving enhancements, stating, “The game-changing work at SteerLight can enable enhanced and widespread ADAS applications.”
SteerLight, a spinoff of the French CEA-Leti technology center, utilizes Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LiDAR technology based on silicon photonics. This technology allows for highly accurate depth and velocity data while minimizing interference from the surrounding environment and other users.
Since its establishment in 2022, Stellantis Ventures has invested in 12 startups and one mobility fund, demonstrating the company’s dedication to exploring innovative technologies in the automotive industry.
In addition to its investment in SteerLight, Stellantis has recently made headlines with its Leapmotor EV venture gaining approval in the Chinese market. This further solidifies the company’s position as a leader in the development of electric and automated vehicles.
As of the latest premarket check on Wednesday, STLA shares are trading higher by 0.10% at $28.85. Stellantis continues to make strategic investments in cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation and enhance the driving experience for its customers.
Overall, Stellantis’ investment in SteerLight and its ongoing commitment to advancing ADAS technologies showcase the company’s dedication to staying at the forefront of the automotive industry’s technological advancements. With a focus on safety, performance, and innovation, Stellantis is poised to lead the way in the development of next-generation vehicles.
