Scottie Scheffler drawing ‘relentless support’ to win The Open

Scottie Scheffler Favored to Win The Open Championship at Royal Troon

Scottie Scheffler is the clear favorite to win the final major of 2024, The Open Championship, at Royal Troon. Despite never finishing better than a tie for eighth at an Open Championship, the world’s No. 1-ranked player is heavily backed by the public to come out on top this week.

At most sportsbooks, including BetMGM, Scheffler opened at +1000 to win The Open, but those odds have been driven down to +500. With 14.3 percent of total bets and 23.7 percent of the money backing him, Scheffler is the book’s biggest liability ahead of former Open champions Collin Morikawa and Rory McIlroy. He has also drawn the most bets to be the first-round leader and to finish in the top five.

Lead golf trader Matt Wall commented on the overwhelming support for Scheffler, stating, “There’s been relentless support for the World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler at BetMGM, but we’re happy with our position with him at +500 currently. Big losers for us include Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau, and Akshay Bhatia. Needless to say, we are hoping for strong performances by the European players this weekend at the British Open.”

Koepka, a five-time major winner, has been backed by 1.2 percent of the money at +4000 odds. However, Scheffler remains the player to beat, having already won six times in a single season, a feat not accomplished since Tiger Woods in 2009.

Scheffler is also favored at DraftKings, where he leads the field with 16 percent of the money backing him to win. He is also first with 8 percent of the money supporting him to be the first-round leader and 30 percent of the money to be the top American finisher.

For those looking for a potential payout, BetRivers is offering better odds on a Scheffler victory at +550, ahead of McIlroy at +750 and Xander Schauffele at +1200.

With the public heavily backing Scheffler to win The Open Championship, all eyes will be on Royal Troon to see if the world’s No. 1 player can live up to expectations and secure his first major championship victory.
