Rookie Rece Hinds homers as Reds power past Rockies

The Cincinnati Reds put on an offensive showcase on Tuesday night as they defeated the Colorado Rockies 12-6 at Great American Ball Park. Rookie sensation Rece Hinds stole the show with a monstrous 458-foot home run and an impressive performance at the plate, falling just a single shy of hitting for the cycle in only his second career game.

Hinds, who made his major league debut the day before with a towering 449-foot homer, continued his impressive start by launching another impressive home run to the upper deck in right field. He also added a triple and a double to his stat line, becoming the first player in MLB history to record five extra-base hits in his first two career games. Despite striking out to end the eighth inning and missing out on a chance to make history with a cycle, Hinds’ performance was nothing short of spectacular.

The Reds’ offense didn’t stop with Hinds, as Tyler Stephenson, Will Benson, and Spencer Steer also contributed with home runs of their own. Benson’s three-run blast in the second inning was a highlight of the game, while Stephenson collected three hits and added a solo homer to the mix.

On the other side, Brenton Doyle provided some fireworks for the Rockies with a pair of homers, including a 442-foot blast off Reds reliever Buck Farmer in the eighth inning. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Reds’ potent offense, as the Rockies fell to 0-2 on their road trip and dropped to a league-worst 12-33 record on the road.

Lefty starter Nick Lodolo returned from a brief stint on the injured list and got off to a strong start before a rain delay interrupted his outing. Nick Martinez came in relief and pitched effectively, allowing no runs and only one hit to earn the win for the Reds.

The Reds took control early in the game, scoring five runs in the second inning off Rockies starter Cal Quantrill. Despite a brief scare in the fourth inning when the Rockies mounted a comeback with back-to-back home runs, the Reds’ offense proved to be too much for Colorado to handle.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Reds, who have now won all five meetings against the Rockies this season. With their potent lineup and strong pitching, the Reds look to continue their winning ways as they push for a playoff spot in the competitive National League.
