The Saskatchewan Roughriders are gearing up for a tough battle on Friday night as they prepare to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Despite the Blue Bombers’ 2-4 record, they have won consecutive games and are starting to show signs of their dominant form from previous years.
In their last game against Calgary, veteran quarterback Zach Collaros showed resilience by overcoming two early interceptions and throwing for 344 yards and two touchdowns. Collaros’ performance was reminiscent of the player who has led the Blue Bombers to four straight Grey Cup finals.
“It’s been a slower start than we would have liked,” Collaros said. “But that’s what makes this game great. You want all of the highs and you want everything to go right all the time, but it’s that inner battle…that if something doesn’t go right, how do you respond?”
The Roughriders, who currently have a 4-1 record, will need to focus on shutting down Winnipeg’s run game, led by running back Brady Oliveira. Oliveira has been on a hot streak with consecutive 100-yard performances, posing a challenge for Saskatchewan’s league-leading rush defense.
“Shea Patterson did throw for 278 yards last week in a 35-20 loss to BC but also tossed an interception without throwing a touchdown.”
On the offensive side, the Roughriders will need to make adjustments without quarterback Trevor Harris, who is sidelined with a knee injury. The team will also be without right tackle Jermarcus Hardrick, paving the way for Jacob Brammer to make his first career start.
As both teams prepare to face off, it will be a battle of strength and strategy to secure the victory. The game promises to be an exciting matchup between two competitive teams in the CFL.
