The New Orleans Pelicans have made a move to bolster their frontcourt by signing free agent center Daniel Theis to a one-year deal, according to a report from ESPN. The 32-year-old big man will be joining his sixth NBA team since entering the league with the Boston Celtics in the 2017-18 season.
Theis spent the majority of the 2023-24 campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he put up solid numbers, averaging 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 59 games, including three starts. Over the course of his career, Theis has shown his versatility on both ends of the floor, with career averages of 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 373 games, 151 of which he started, with the Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, and Clippers.
In addition to his NBA experience, Theis has also represented his native Germany on the international stage. This summer, he is set to compete for his country at the Olympics in Paris. Theis played a key role in helping Germany capture gold at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where the United States surprisingly finished in fourth place.
The addition of Daniel Theis gives the Pelicans added depth and experience in the frontcourt as they look to make a push for a playoff spot in the upcoming season.
