Report: Clippers bringing back C/F Kai Jones

The Los Angeles Clippers have made a move to bring back free agent center/forward Kai Jones, according to a report from The Athletic. Jones, who had been under contract with the Clippers in April, will return to the team on a non-guaranteed contract.

The 23-year-old Jones won’t be able to participate in the summer league due to an ankle injury. Despite this setback, the Clippers are hopeful that he can contribute to the team once he is fully healthy.

Jones was originally selected by the New York Knicks with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets. He appeared in 67 games for the Hornets over the course of two seasons, averaging 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks in 9.1 minutes per game. He was released by the Hornets in October 2023.

After his release, Jones spent time in the G League before being signed to a 10-day contract by the Philadelphia 76ers in March. The Clippers then signed him in April, giving him another opportunity to prove himself in the NBA.

Jones’ versatility as a big man and his ability to protect the rim could make him a valuable asset for the Clippers moving forward. With his combination of size, athleticism, and shooting touch, Jones has the potential to become a solid contributor for the team.

The Clippers will be looking to Jones to provide depth in the frontcourt and add another dimension to their roster as they aim to compete for a playoff spot in the upcoming season. With his skill set and potential, Jones could be a key piece for the Clippers as they look to make a push in the Western Conference.
