The Chicago Red Stars have made a significant addition to their roster by signing Canadian midfielder Julia Grosso to a three-year contract through the 2026 NWSL season. The announcement was made on Monday, much to the excitement of both the player and the club.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Red Stars and can’t wait to hit the field every weekend and give it my all,” Grosso expressed. “I’ve heard that Red Star fans are super passionate, so I’m excited to be a part of that. I’m looking forward to playing alongside the talented players in Chicago for the rest of the season and beyond!”
Grosso, who is 23 years old, will make her way to Chicago after representing Canada at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Her experience playing college soccer at Texas from 2018 to 2021, followed by a stint with Italy’s Juventus from 2022 to 2024, has prepared her well for the challenges of the NWSL.
Red Stars general manager Richard Feuz welcomed Grosso to the team, highlighting her valuable experience both in Europe and on the international stage. “Julia’s experience with Juventus FC, and internationally with Canada, will be a crucial addition to our midfield,” Feuz remarked. “Her background with a top European club, combined with her knowledge of North American soccer, will help strengthen the backbone of our team as we strive to reach new heights.”
Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Grosso has proven herself as a skilled midfielder with an impressive goal-scoring record. She scored 21 goals in 60 matches during her time at Texas and added 10 goals in 76 appearances for Juventus.
The addition of Julia Grosso to the Chicago Red Stars is sure to bolster the team and provide a new dynamic on the field. Fans can look forward to seeing her in action and contributing to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons.
