OpTic Texas dominates to open CDL Championship Weekend


The Call of Duty League’s Championship Weekend got off to an exciting start in Allen, Texas, as OpTic Texas swept the LA Guerrillas 3-0 in front of a home crowd. The event, which is the culmination of the CDL season, features the top eight point-getters from the regular season majors competing for a prize pool believed to be $2.5 million, with the winner taking home $1.2 million.

OpTic Texas dominated their match against the LA Guerrillas, winning Rio Hardpoint 250-208, Highrise Search & Destroy 6-4, and Karachi Control 3-1. They will now face off against the LA Thieves in the second round of the winners’ bracket. The Thieves advanced by defeating the Toronto Ultra in a close match that saw them take three of four maps.

In the other half of the bracket, the Atlanta FaZe also emerged victorious, defeating the Miami Heretics 3-1. The FaZe won Vista Hardpoint 250-222, while the Heretics answered back with a 6-4 win on Invasion Search & Destroy. However, the FaZe ultimately took the next two maps to secure the win.

The New York Subliners and Seattle Surge played the tightest match of the day, with the Subliners ultimately coming out on top with a 3-2 win. The match saw back-and-forth victories, with the Subliners winning Karachi Hardpoint, the Surge winning 6 Star Search & Destroy, the Subliners winning Invasion Control, the Surge winning Vista Hardpoint, and the Subliners finally clinching the win with a victory on Karachi Search & Destroy.

Friday’s matches will see four more teams face off, with two eliminations on the line. The winners’ bracket matches will feature the Atlanta FaZe taking on the New York Subliners, and the LA Thieves facing off against OpTic Texas. The elimination matches will see the Miami Heretics going up against the Seattle Surge, and the Toronto Ultra taking on the LA Guerrillas.
