NBA trade deadline winners (Knicks) and losers (Mavs)

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and while many teams made moves to improve their rosters, the New York Knicks may have made the biggest splash of them all. With the acquisition of Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanović from the Detroit Pistons, the Knicks have solidified their status as true championship contenders.

The trade, which saw Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Malachi Flynn, Ryan Arcidiacono, and two second-round picks sent to Detroit, was a masterclass move by Knicks President Leon Rose. Not only did he manage to acquire two talented players in Bogdanović and Burks, but he did so without giving up a single first-round pick.

Bojan Bogdanović, known for his elite shooting, will provide a much-needed boost to the Knicks’ offense. With injuries sidelining both Julius Randle and OG Anunoby, Bogdanović’s ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc will be crucial. He boasts an impressive 40% shooting percentage on catch-and-shoot threes and an even more impressive 47% shooting percentage on pull-up threes.

Meanwhile, Alec Burks brings playmaking and continuity to the team. Having already played with the Knicks during the Tom Thibodeau era, Burks is familiar with the system and will be able to seamlessly integrate into the lineup. He is shooting 41% on catch-and-shoot threes and 38% on pull-up threes, making him a valuable asset in both creating and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

With these additions, the Knicks are now equipped with a well-rounded and talented roster that is capable of competing with the best teams in the league. They have a strong defense led by Thibodeau’s coaching, and now they have the offensive firepower to match.

Fans and analysts alike are buzzing with excitement over the Knicks’ chances of making a deep playoff run. Some are even bold enough to predict that the Knicks are destined for the Finals. While it may be premature to make such a proclamation, there is no denying that the Knicks have significantly bolstered their chances of success.

The acquisition of Bogdanović and Burks not only strengthens the team’s current roster but also sends a clear message to the rest of the league that the Knicks are a force to be reckoned with. With their sights set on the ultimate prize, the Knicks are ready to make a statement in the playoffs and beyond.

Only time will tell if the Knicks can live up to the high expectations set upon them. But one thing is for sure, with the addition of Bogdanović and Burks, the Knicks have positioned themselves as legitimate contenders in the pursuit of an NBA championship.
