Melissa Barrera, Palestine Protesters Shut Down Street Outside Sundance

Pro-Palestine Protesters Shut Down Street Near Sundance Film Festival

On Sunday afternoon, a group of pro-Palestine protesters gathered near the Sundance Film Festival, causing a street closure. The demonstration was organized by “Let Gaza Live” and reportedly attracted around 100 participants. Among the protesters were former “Scream” star Melissa Barrera and model/actor Indya Moore.

Melissa Barrera, who was recently fired from the “Scream” franchise for her comments on the war between Israel and Hamas, kept a low profile during the protest, wearing a hood and sunglasses. Indya Moore, on the other hand, took a more prominent role and even used a megaphone during the rally.

The protest remained peaceful throughout the morning, with passionate demonstrators sharing videos on social media. However, some of the chants used by the protesters stirred up controversy. The phrase “From the river to the sea,” which is a point of contention between Israel supporters and Palestine supporters, was heard. Additionally, President Biden was criticized, with protesters referring to him as “Genocide Joe” and questioning his actions.

Supporters of Israel also gathered in Park City, mounting a counter-protest. They chanted “Bring them home,” referring to hostages taken by Hamas during an attack in October 2023. The presence of both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel protesters created a tense atmosphere in the area.

It’s important to note that the protest was not affiliated with the Sundance Film Festival but took place near the festival grounds. This tactic has been used in the past by political protesters to gain media attention. In 2017, thousands of protesters gathered near the festival to protest the newly inaugurated President Trump.

Representatives from the Sundance Film Festival released a statement before the march, acknowledging the demonstration and assuring festivalgoers that they were working with local law enforcement to ensure their safety.

Overall, the protest near the Sundance Film Festival brought attention to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with famous faces joining the cause and voicing their support for Palestine.
