Los Angeles FC Dominates Seattle Sounders in 3-0 Victory

On July 20, 2024, Los Angeles FC showcased their dominance as they rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington. Denis Bouanga recorded a brace, while Mateusz Bogusz also found the back of the net to secure the win for LAFC.

Bouanga, who is currently tied for second in goals in MLS with 16 goals, scored one of the goals on a penalty kick. He is tied with D.C. United star Christian Benteke, trailing only suspended Real Salt Lake standout Cristian “Chicho” Arango, who has 17 goals to his name.

Bogusz added to LAFC’s tally with his 13th goal of the season, further solidifying their lead over the Sounders. LAFC has now dominated the recent rivalry with Seattle, boasting a 6-0-2 record over the past eight matches against their Western Conference opponents.

With this victory, Los Angeles FC improved their record to 14-5-5, totaling 47 points and maintaining their second-place position in the Western Conference standings behind the LA Galaxy. The team has been in top form, going 10-1-2 over their past 13 matches.

On the other hand, the Seattle Sounders saw their seven-match MLS unbeaten streak come to an end with this loss. Despite their efforts, Seattle’s record now stands at 10-8-7, with 37 points in the Western Conference.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris played a crucial role in LAFC’s victory, making four saves and securing his ninth shutout of the season. Seattle’s Stefan Frei also put in a commendable performance, making one save during the match.

Although Seattle had a 20-7 edge in shots and put five on target compared to LAFC’s four, they were unable to find the back of the net. The Sounders had three good chances in second-half stoppage time, but LAFC’s defense held strong to maintain the clean sheet.

Los Angeles received a penalty kick in the 14th minute after a handball was called on Seattle’s Nouhou during a scramble in front of the net. Bouanga stepped up and converted the penalty with a high, booming kick into the center of the net, opening the scoring for LAFC.

Bouanga continued his stellar performance by adding another goal in the 74th minute, while Bogusz found the back of the net in the 26th minute to seal the victory for Los Angeles FC. Despite a chance at a hat trick in the 80th minute, Bouanga was denied by Frei’s superb save on his left-footed shot.

In the end, Los Angeles FC’s clinical finishing and solid defensive display proved to be the difference as they claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders. With this win, LAFC solidified their position as contenders in the Western Conference and showcased their strength as a formidable force in MLS.
