Jose Miranda ties consecutive-hits record, Twins handle Astros

On July 6, 2024, history was made at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as Jose Miranda of the Minnesota Twins matched the major league record for consecutive hits. Miranda’s remarkable streak of 12 hits in 12 at-bats came to an end during the sixth inning of the game against the Houston Astros.

Miranda’s achievement was part of a dominant performance by the Twins, who went on to beat the Astros 9-3. Brooks Lee also had a standout moment in the game, hitting his first career home run to contribute to the Twins’ victory.

Miranda’s feat was particularly impressive as he entered the game with 10 hits in his previous 10 at-bats. After being hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance, Miranda added singles in the second and fourth innings to set the Expansion Era record. The only other players in history to achieve hits in 12 consecutive at-bats are Walt Dropo, Pinky Higgins, and Johnny Kling.

The Twins wasted no time in putting runs on the board, scoring seven runs across the first three innings against Astros pitcher Hunter Brown. Brown, who had been on a hot streak with eight consecutive quality starts and five straight wins, struggled against the Twins’ offense.

Despite the Astros mounting a comeback with home runs from Alex Bregman and Jon Singleton, the Twins maintained their lead. Twins right-hander Joe Ryan, who had given up four home runs in his previous start against the Astros, bounced back with a solid performance, recording eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

In the end, it was the Twins who emerged victorious, with Byron Buxton adding a two-run homer in the seventh inning to secure the win. The game showcased the Twins’ offensive firepower and resilience, as they handed the Astros a decisive defeat.

Overall, Jose Miranda’s record-setting performance and the Twins’ strong showing against the Astros made for an exciting and memorable game at Target Field. Fans were treated to a display of exceptional hitting and pitching, making it a game to remember in the annals of baseball history.
