ICRISAT Boosts Tribal Women and Tourism in Odisha on Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has taken a significant step towards empowering tribal women in Odisha. The organization has launched a new initiative that aims to boost the economic prospects of tribal women in the region while also promoting tourism.

The initiative, called “Empowering Tribal Women through Tourism,” focuses on providing training and support to women from tribal communities in the state. These women are being trained in various skills such as handicrafts, traditional art forms, and cooking, which can then be used to generate income through tourism-related activities.

ICRISAT has partnered with local organizations and tour operators to create opportunities for these women to showcase their skills to tourists visiting the region. This not only provides them with a source of income but also helps to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the tribal communities in Odisha.

The initiative is also aimed at boosting tourism in the region by offering unique and authentic experiences to visitors. Tourists will have the opportunity to engage with the tribal women, learn about their culture and traditions, and purchase handmade crafts and souvenirs directly from them.

By empowering tribal women and promoting tourism in the region, ICRISAT hopes to create a sustainable and inclusive model of development that benefits both the local communities and the tourism industry. This initiative is not only a celebration of women’s empowerment on International Women’s Day but also a step towards creating a more equitable and prosperous future for tribal women in Odisha.

The launch of this initiative comes at a time when the tourism industry in Odisha is facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By focusing on empowering women from tribal communities, ICRISAT is not only helping to revitalize the tourism sector but also contributing to the overall economic development of the region.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is heartening to see organizations like ICRISAT taking concrete steps to empower women and promote sustainable development. This initiative is a shining example of how investing in women’s empowerment can lead to positive outcomes for both individuals and communities.
