Harrison Butker Sets New Super Bowl Record with Long Field Goal
In a thrilling Super Bowl matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, kicker Harrison Butker made history with a remarkable field goal. Butker’s 57-yard kick in the second quarter surpassed the previous Super Bowl record set by Jake Moody of the 49ers, who had converted a 55-yard field goal earlier in the game.
Butker, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, made headlines with his impressive performance. The previous record of 54 yards had been set by Steve Christie of the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl 28, but Butker’s long-range kick exceeded all expectations.

In fact, Butker had an outstanding regular season, making 33 of his 35 attempts and boasting a season-long kick of 60 yards. Butker’s journey to the NFL began when he was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to his professional career, Butker played college football at Georgia Tech and proved himself as a consistent and accurate kicker. Now, as a two-time Super Bowl champion, Butker has solidified his place as one of the league’s top kickers.

Moody, who was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan, had previously set a school record with a 59-yard field goal while playing for the Wolverines.

He made a 52-yarder against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round and converted kicks from 43 and 33 yards against the Detroit Lions in the Conference Championship Game. Throughout the regular season, Moody converted 21-of-25 field goal attempts, with his season-long make being 57 yards.
