Freddie Freeman’s slam vaults Dodgers over Red Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers came back in dramatic fashion on Friday night, as Freddie Freeman’s grand slam in the eighth inning propelled them to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The game, which took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, saw the Dodgers struggling offensively for most of the night before Freeman’s heroics turned the tide.

The Dodgers managed just two hits through the first seven innings, but a walk to Miguel Vargas, a double from Shohei Ohtani, and an intentional walk to Will Smith set the stage for Freeman’s game-changing home run. The blast off Red Sox left-hander Brennan Bernardino gave the Dodgers the lead and ultimately the win.

Rookie right-hander Gavin Stone put in a solid performance on the mound for the Dodgers, giving up just one run over five innings. The Dodgers’ bullpen held strong, with left-hander Ryan Yarbrough earning the win and right-hander Daniel Hudson notching his fifth save of the season.

On the Red Sox side, Jarren Duran continued his hot streak with another home run, his 11th of the season. Despite a strong outing from starting pitcher Nick Pivetta, the Red Sox were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and fell to the Dodgers.

The defeat was a disappointing one for the Red Sox, who had been on a hot streak leading up to the All-Star break. The loss also marked the team’s first visit to Los Angeles since they clinched the World Series on the same field in 2018.

Pivetta, despite a solid performance with eight strikeouts, remained winless since mid-June. The Red Sox struggled to come through in key moments, going 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Both teams will look to regroup and bounce back in the remainder of the series, as they continue their push towards the postseason. With the win, the Dodgers hope to build momentum and climb up the standings in the competitive National League West division.

Overall, it was a thrilling game with plenty of highlights and standout performances. The Dodgers’ late-inning rally and Freeman’s clutch home run will surely be remembered as a key moment in what turned out to be a hard-fought victory for the Dodgers.
