Ex-NFLer Ronald Powell Dead At 32, Former No. 1-Ranked H.S. Recruit

Former NFL linebacker Ronald Powell, who was once ranked as the No. 1 high school recruit in the 2010 class, has tragically passed away at the age of 32. The news was announced by his former college football teammate, Junior Galette, who expressed his heartbreak over the loss.

Galette took to social media to share his grief, writing, “I Love You Forever till we meet again. An EXCELLENT FATHER. Respected Brother and a Loving Son.” He did not disclose the cause of Powell’s death.

Powell began his football career at Rancho Verde High School in California, where he excelled as a defensive end, linebacker, and tight end. In his senior year, he recorded 13 sacks and 28 tackles for losses, earning him the distinction of being a five-star college recruit and the top player in his class.

Ultimately, Powell committed to playing for the Florida Gators in college. However, his career was plagued by injuries, including two torn ACLs, which slowed down his progress. Despite the setbacks, he managed to accumulate 11 sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble in three seasons.

In 2014, Powell was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the NFL draft. However, he only appeared in 14 games during his professional career. He also had a stint in the Alliance of American Football, playing for the Orlando Apollos in 2018.

The football community mourns the loss of Ronald Powell, remembering him for his talent and potential on the field. May he rest in peace.
