Ex-NBA player arrested after allegedly punching, choking woman

Former NBA player Bryn Forbes was arrested on a family violence charge on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting the mother of his two children. According to court documents, Forbes knocked on the woman’s apartment window and when she let him in, he punched her in the head and then choked her with his forearms, the collar of her shirt, and then his hands.

The woman told Forbes that she couldn’t breathe, to which he responded, “If you can speak then you are not being choked,” as stated in the court documents. Forbes fled the scene before the police arrived but was arrested the following morning.

The former NBA player was arrested in Bexar County, Texas, and is now facing a charge of assaulting a family member by choking/strangulation, which is a third-degree felony. He currently has a bail set at $7,500 and was still in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

This is not the first time Forbes has been involved in a domestic violence incident. In February of last year, he was arrested for allegedly hitting a woman he was seeing multiple times after an argument escalated. However, he entered into a pretrial diversion program in June.

Forbes played college basketball at Cleveland State and Michigan State before joining the San Antonio Spurs as an undrafted free agent. He spent his first four seasons with the Spurs before signing with the Milwaukee Bucks. He then returned to the Spurs the following season and later joined the Denver Nuggets. Last season, he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he has not played a game this season with any team.
