Draymond Green tried to play matchmaker with LeBron and Steph

In the world of basketball, there’s a saying: “Closed mouths don’t get fed.” It means that if you don’t speak up or take risks, you won’t get what you want. And NBA player Draymond Green is a perfect example of someone who embodies this philosophy.

Recently, Green took it upon himself to make a bold move in the hopes of bringing LeBron James to the Golden State Warriors. Green, who is known for his aggressive playing style and willingness to take risks on the court, decided to apply that same mentality off the court.

After witnessing the camaraderie between James and Warriors star Steph Curry, Green saw an opportunity. He reached out to Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, who represents James, and encouraged him to push James towards joining the Warriors. Green even went so far as to have Warriors owner Joe Lacob inquire about James’ availability with Lakers owner Jeannie Buss.

However, despite Green’s efforts, James respectfully declined the offer. He explained that he was content with his current situation as a married father of three playing for the Lakers, and as the face of the NBA’s marquee franchise. James’ decision not only highlighted his loyalty to his team, but also showcased the limits of Green’s influence.

While the idea of James joining the Warriors might have seemed intriguing, it would have had a negative impact on his legacy. James would essentially be admitting defeat and abdicating his throne to Curry, his long-time rival. It would have been a melodramatic move that he didn’t need at this stage of his career.

Furthermore, the chemistry between Curry and James might not have been as seamless as some would have hoped. While they have expressed admiration for each other on multiple occasions, they have also engaged in intense battles on the court during the NBA Finals. The dynamics of their relationship as teammates would have been complicated, and it’s uncertain how well they would have been able to work together.

Ultimately, Green’s attempt to play matchmaker between Curry and James was an interesting move, but it didn’t pan out. James’ decision to stay with the Lakers and continue building his legacy in Los Angeles was a wise one. Sometimes, it’s best to leave things as they are and focus on what’s already working. In the case of James and the Warriors, it’s clear that a union would not have been beneficial for either party.
