DII women’s basketball player has all-levels record 44 rebounds

Caitlin Clark wasn’t the only women’s basketball player making history last night. While the Iowa Hawkeyes star scored a remarkable 49 points to become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history, another record was broken as well.

Lauryn Taylor, a Division II player from Francis Marion University, had an incredible performance in their win against North Greenville. Taylor recorded an astonishing 44 rebounds, breaking the previous record for most rebounds in a game at any level in NCAA women’s basketball history.

The previous Division II record was 36 rebounds, set in 1995 by Christine DeSaine. Taylor also surpassed the Division I record of 40 rebounds set in 1983 by Deborah Temple of Delta State, as well as the Division III mark of 38 rebounds.

What makes Taylor’s feat even more impressive is that 30 of her rebounds were on the defensive end. Rebounding is a crucial aspect of the game, and Taylor’s dominance on the boards played a significant role in her team’s victory.

In addition to setting the record, Taylor also had a career-high 34 points in the game. This marked her 18th double-double of the season, showcasing her all-around skills on the court. Taylor leads the NCAA at the Division II level with an average of 13.6 rebounds per game, further solidifying her status as one of the top players in the country.

Taylor’s performance not only made history but also propelled her up the record books for Francis Marion University. She now sits in ninth place on the all-time scoring list with a total of 1,603 points. Additionally, she ranks seventh on the career rebounding list for the school, with 948 rebounds.

It’s remarkable to witness such extraordinary performances in women’s basketball, and Taylor’s record-breaking game is a testament to the talent and dedication of these athletes. As the sport continues to grow and evolve, it’s exciting to see players like Taylor leave their mark and inspire future generations of basketball players.
