Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Expresses Desire to Stay in Toronto Long Term
As the MLB trade deadline approaches, Toronto Blue Jays’ All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has made it clear that he hopes to remain with the team for the long haul. With his contract set to expire after the 2025 season, Guerrero reiterated his commitment to the Blue Jays during All-Star Game Media Day at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
“I’d love to be in Toronto,” Guerrero said. “My family loves Toronto. My kids love Toronto. But at the end of the day, it’s a business. We all need to understand that. So whatever happens, happens. But definitely, I would like to stay there.”
Guerrero, 25, is having another standout season, earning his fourth consecutive All-Star nod. He entered the All-Star break batting .288 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs in 95 games. Despite his individual success, the Blue Jays have struggled this season and currently sit in last place in the American League East with a 44-52 record.
While the Blue Jays have stated that they do not plan to trade Guerrero or shortstop Bo Bichette before the deadline, contract negotiations with Guerrero have not progressed. The uncertainty surrounding Guerrero’s future with the team has raised questions about the Blue Jays’ plans as the trade deadline approaches.
“I control what I can control,” Guerrero said. “I’m just trying to go out there and give my 100 percent, and whatever happens after that, I can’t control it.”
As the trade deadline looms, Guerrero’s desire to stay in Toronto may ultimately come down to the decisions made by the Blue Jays’ front office. Whether Guerrero remains in Toronto long term or ends up playing elsewhere, his commitment to the team and the city is clear. Blue Jays fans will undoubtedly be watching closely as the deadline approaches to see what the future holds for their star slugger.
