The St. Louis Cardinals made some roster moves ahead of their game against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, including promoting right-hander Michael McGreevy from Triple-A Memphis to make his major league debut. The Cardinals also placed right-hander Lance Lynn on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation.
McGreevy, the 18th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has posted a 5-7 record with a 4.45 ERA in 20 starts at Memphis this season. The 24-year-old has shown promise in his recent outings, including a six-inning scoreless performance in his last start. He is ranked as the Cardinals’ No. 15 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
In Lynn’s absence, the Cardinals will turn to other options in their pitching staff. Lynn, 37, has been a reliable starter for the team this season, posting a 6-4 record with a 4.06 ERA in 21 starts. He picked up the win against the Rangers on Tuesday after allowing just one run on three hits in five innings.
To bolster their pitching depth, the Cardinals recalled Ryan Loutos from Memphis. Loutos, 25, has impressed in his limited appearances with the team, allowing just two hits over 1 1/3 scoreless innings. The team also made some corresponding moves, optioning right-hander Chris Roycroft to Triple-A and designating righty Jacob Bosiokovic for assignment.
Overall, the Cardinals are continuing to make adjustments to their roster as they navigate through the ups and downs of the season. With a mix of experienced veterans like Lynn and promising young talent like McGreevy, the team is looking to stay competitive and make a push for the postseason.
