Angels’ Keston Hiura looks to make most of his chances vs. Cubs

The Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs are set to wrap up a three-game series at Wrigley Field on Sunday, and one player who will be in the spotlight is Keston Hiura.

Luis Rengifo, who has been a key contributor for the Angels this season, will not be in the starting lineup due to an inflamed wrist. This has opened up an opportunity for Hiura, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Rengifo’s spot on the roster.

Hiura made an immediate impact in his first major league game since October 2022, getting a hit and scoring a run. He followed that up with a strong performance in Saturday’s win over the Cubs, going 2-for-5 with an RBI while starting at second base.

The 25-year-old Hiura spent last season in the minors with the Milwaukee Brewers due to a knee injury. After being released by the Brewers, he signed with the Detroit Tigers and then the Angels, where he excelled in Triple-A Salt Lake, earning his promotion with a .360 batting average, 12 home runs, and 21 RBIs in just 19 games.

Hiura, a versatile player who can play multiple positions, has shown the ability to hit for power throughout his career. He will look to continue his hot streak and solidify his place in the Angels’ lineup.

On the mound, the Angels will send right-hander Jose Soriano to face off against Cubs’ right-hander Hayden Wesneski. Wesneski, who has been moving between the bullpen and starting rotation for the Cubs this season, will look to rebound from a tough start against the Phillies in his last outing.

Both teams will be looking for a strong finish to the series, and fans can expect an exciting matchup between these two talented teams. Stay tuned for more updates on this game and the rest of the MLB season.
