Airlines using Swift-Kelce Super Bowl PR ploy as a distraction


The airline industry has always been adept at diverting our attention with flashy marketing campaigns and celebrity endorsements. But amidst all the glitz and glamour, it’s important not to lose sight of the real issues at hand.

Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing deployed oxygen masks on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9. This incident is deeply concerning, and no amount of marketing hype or distraction can take away from its significance. As consumers, we should hold the airline industry accountable for ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.

Yet, it seems that some airlines are more interested in capitalizing on pop culture trends than addressing these critical issues. American Airlines, for example, announced additional flights between Kansas City and Las Vegas following the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory in the AFC Championship game. They even named one of the flights after Taylor Swift’s birth year and album. Similarly, United Airlines numbered some of their flights after the rumored relationship between Swift and Chiefs player Travis Kelce.

While the Swift-Kelce romance may be a compelling story for tabloids and entertainment outlets, it holds little importance for the average traveler. These flights, often overpriced and cramped, should be a cause for concern instead. The airline industry should prioritize the safety and comfort of passengers rather than using celebrity relationships as a marketing ploy.

In fact, the airline industry as a whole has been under scrutiny for its lack of thorough inspection processes. Large machines that carry hundreds of people should undergo rigorous checks to ensure their safety, but unfortunately, this is not always the case. The Boeing 737 Max crisis is a prime example of how profit-driven decisions can compromise quality and safety.

According to James Surowiecki of The Atlantic, Boeing’s acquisition of McDonnell Douglas in 1997 marked a turning point for the company. It became more focused on its bottom line rather than the quality of its product. This shift in priorities has had serious consequences, as evidenced by the tragic accidents involving the 737 Max aircraft.

It’s clear that the airline industry needs to reevaluate its priorities and place a greater emphasis on safety and quality. Instead of trying to distract us with celebrity gossip and flashy marketing campaigns, airlines should invest in thorough inspections and maintenance procedures.

As consumers, it’s important for us to remain vigilant and not be swayed by these distractions.
