Amazon to Add 20 New U.S. Cities to Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery Business

Amazon.com announced on Monday that it plans to further expand its pharmacy business by more than doubling the number of cities where customers can get same-day delivery of their medications. The e-commerce giant, which entered the pharmacy business in 2018 with its acquisition of PillPack, currently offers same-day delivery in six cities: Seattle, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami.

The expansion will bring same-day delivery to 10 additional cities, including Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Francisco. This move is part of Amazon’s efforts to disrupt the traditional pharmacy industry and make it more convenient for customers to get their medications.

Amazon’s pharmacy business allows customers to order prescription medications online and have them delivered to their doorsteps in discreet packaging. The company also offers tools to help customers manage their medications, including reminders to take their pills and alerts when it’s time to refill a prescription.

The expansion of Amazon’s pharmacy business comes at a time when more people are turning to online options for their healthcare needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift to telehealth and e-commerce, and many consumers are now more comfortable ordering medications online.

However, Amazon’s entry into the pharmacy business has raised concerns among some traditional brick-and-mortar pharmacies. Critics worry that Amazon’s aggressive pricing and convenience could drive smaller pharmacies out of business, leading to a lack of competition and higher prices for consumers.

Despite these concerns, Amazon’s pharmacy business has been growing steadily since its launch. The company’s deep pockets and vast network of distribution centers make it well-positioned to compete in the pharmacy industry. By expanding its same-day delivery service to more cities, Amazon is making it even easier for customers to get their medications quickly and conveniently.

In conclusion, Amazon.com’s plans to expand its pharmacy business by offering same-day delivery in more cities is a sign of the company’s commitment to disrupting the traditional pharmacy industry. While some critics may be concerned about the impact on smaller pharmacies, Amazon’s convenient and affordable options are likely to appeal to many consumers. As more people turn to online options for their healthcare needs, Amazon’s pharmacy business is well-positioned for continued growth and success.
