Early home runs steer Marlins past Brewers

The Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday night. Bryan De La Cruz and Jake Burger started the game strong with home runs in the first inning, giving the Marlins an early lead.

De La Cruz hit his 18th home run of the season, followed by Burger’s 13th homer, both off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta. The Marlins added two more runs in the third inning due to a fielding error by Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

Marlins left-hander Trevor Rogers had a solid outing, allowing only two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. Anthony Bender, Huascar Brazoban, and Tanner Scott combined for solid relief pitching to secure the win for Miami.

The Brewers got on the board with solo home runs from Rhys Hoskins and a sacrifice fly from Gary Sanchez, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. Peralta struggled on the mound, giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The Marlins’ offense was led by De La Cruz, Burger, and Josh Bell, who each had two hits in the game. Miami has now won three of their last four games, showing signs of improvement as they continue through the season.

The Brewers, who lead the NL Central, have now dropped to 4-2 since the All-Star break. Despite the loss, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras had solid performances at the plate, each contributing two hits for Milwaukee.

Overall, it was a strong performance by the Marlins, both offensively and defensively, as they handed the Brewers a 6-2 defeat in the series opener. Miami will look to carry this momentum into the next two games as they aim to secure a series win against a tough Milwaukee team.
