Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez left Sunday’s game vs. the Astros in the sixth inning with an apparent right ankle injury.

Rodriguez, 23, crashed into the outfield wall trying to track down a triple by Houston’s Yordan Alvarez. Rodriguez initially had the ball in his glove, but it popped out as he hit the wall. Rodriguez crumpled to the warning track and immediately grabbed his ankle.

A Mariners trainer and manager Scott Servais rushed out to attend to Rodriguez, who was able to walk off the field on his own with a slight limp.

Houston scored on the play to cut the Seattle lead to 3-2. The Astros took the first two games of the three-game series.

Rodriguez finished his day 0-for-3, lowering his season batting average to .263. A year after racking up 103 RBIs and 32 home runs, Rodriguez has just 37 and 11 in those respective categories in 2024.

Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez had to leave Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros in the sixth inning after suffering an apparent right ankle injury. The 23-year-old outfielder crashed into the outfield wall while trying to track down a hit by Houston’s Yordan Alvarez. Rodriguez had the ball momentarily in his glove, but it popped out as he collided with the wall, causing him to crumple to the warning track in pain.

The Mariners’ trainer and manager Scott Servais quickly came to Rodriguez’s aid, and thankfully, he was able to walk off the field on his own, albeit with a slight limp. The play resulted in a run for the Astros, narrowing the Seattle lead to 3-2. Unfortunately for the Mariners, they went on to lose the game, marking their third consecutive defeat in the series.

Rodriguez’s injury is a concern for the Mariners as he has been a key player for the team this season. His performance at the plate has not been as impressive as in the previous year, with his batting average dropping to .263 and his RBI and home run numbers significantly lower than the previous season’s stats.

Despite this setback, the Mariners are hopeful that Rodriguez’s injury is not serious and that he will be able to return to the lineup soon. In the meantime, the team will have to rely on their depth to fill the void left by their talented outfielder.

We wish Julio Rodriguez a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field showcasing his skills and contributing to the Mariners’ success in the near future.
