Jon Gallagher scores late as Austin FC earns draw with Charlotte FC


Austin FC and Charlotte FC battled it out in an intense interconference match on Saturday, resulting in a thrilling 2-2 draw. This match marked only the second ever meeting between the two sides, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Austin FC, currently in 10th place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 8-10-7 and 31 points, was determined to snap their two-match losing streak. On the other hand, Charlotte FC, sitting in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 10-8-7 and 37 points, was looking to extend their unbeaten streak.

The Verde struck first with Alexander Ring scoring a goal in the 11th minute after a brilliant pass from Dani Pereira. However, Ring’s joy was short-lived as he conceded a penalty in the 32nd minute, allowing Karol Swiderski to equalize for Charlotte FC.

Swiderski had a chance to put Charlotte in the lead early in the second half but was denied by the crossbar. Nonetheless, Iuri Tavares managed to score for Charlotte in the 56th minute, putting them ahead with a left-footed shot.

Austin FC fought back, with Jon Gallagher coming off the bench to score the equalizer in the 80th minute. Gallagher’s goal, assisted by Diego Rubio and Alexander Ring, salvaged a point for Austin FC.

The match was filled with exciting moments, with both teams creating numerous opportunities to secure the win. In the end, the sides had to settle for a draw as Ben Bender’s late attempt on goal was saved by Austin FC goalkeeper Brad Stuver.
