The Texas Rangers have had a successful weekend, sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series. However, despite this accomplishment, they still have a long road ahead if they want to capture a second straight title as defending World Series champions.
The Rangers currently have a record of 42-48 as they head into a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim. They have been struggling to stay above .500 since May 21 and are currently six games back in the American League West.
On the other hand, the Angels are sitting at 37-52 and are 10 1/2 games back in the AL West. They have been struggling to score runs, with only 13 runs in their past six games. In fact, they have been shut out in three of their last five games, including a 5-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
Both teams are hoping to turn things around, with the Rangers looking to enter the All-Star break on a positive note. Texas manager Bruce Bochy emphasized the importance of playing good baseball and winning games in order to reach their ultimate goal.
The Angels, who are already without one of their top offensive players, Luis Rengifo, due to an inflamed wrist, are now facing the possibility of losing another key player in Taylor Ward. Ward injured his left knee while trying to make a sliding catch in Sunday’s game against the Cubs.
Despite these challenges, the Angels are hopeful that third baseman Anthony Rendon, who has been out since April 20 with a torn left hamstring, could make his return to the lineup for Monday’s game. Manager Ron Washington’s plan is to have Rendon start at third base and then DH the following day.
On the pitching side, right-hander Davis Daniel will make his third start for the Angels, while Jon Gray will take the mound for the Rangers. Gray, who has a 3-4 record and a 3.92 ERA, will be looking to bounce back after a couple of tough outings.
Both teams are eager to secure a win in this series, as they look to gain momentum heading into the All-Star break. It will be an exciting matchup to watch as these two teams battle it out on the diamond.
