Marshawn Lynch, former NFL running back, has recently avoided jail time for his DUI charge after taking a plea deal. According to reports, Lynch will have the charge lowered to reckless driving if he completes DUI school, a victim impact panel, an alcohol evaluation, 200 hours of community service, and stays out of trouble for a year. Additionally, he must pay a $1,140 fine.
Lynch managed to avoid a trial that was set to start today, as his attorneys, Richard Schonfeld and David Chesnoff, stated that Lynch has not been convicted of any offense at this time. They further explained that Lynch agreed to complete certain requirements that will result in the case being closed as a reckless driving traffic offense.
The incident leading to Lynch’s arrest occurred when police found him asleep at the wheel of his car on the Las Vegas Strip. Prosecutors revealed that Lynch’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time.
At 37 years old, Lynch has not played in the NFL since 2019. Throughout his 12-year professional career, he spent the majority of his time with the Seattle Seahawks, winning Super Bowl XLVIII. He also had stints with the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders before a brief retirement. Lynch is recognized as one of the 31 players to rush for over 10,000 yards in a career, a five-time Pro Bowler, and the NFL’s rushing touchdowns leader in 2013 and 2014.
Since retiring from football, Lynch has ventured into acting, playing a teacher in the movie “Bottoms,” and established a cannabis brand called “Dodi Blunts” in the Bay Area. The brand supports and contributes proceeds to The Last Prisoner Project, an organization focused on drug reform.
It’s worth noting that this is not Lynch’s first brush with the law. In 2008, he pled guilty to a hit-and-run charge, and in 2012, he was arrested for a DUI, which was settled in 2014 with a guilty plea for reckless driving. Despite these legal issues, Lynch continues to make a positive impact through his business ventures and philanthropic efforts.
